Past version numbers
In the past the MacType version numbers have included the main version number, the exact date MacType was released, and a point version in the format vV.YYYY.MD.P (for example v1.2017.628.0).
We're simplifying this in an effort to make MacType more accessible to less technical users, and to new users of MacType.
Future version numbers
As of October 2018 we are switching to simpler version numbers. These will be in the format YYYY.N.
For example, the release we're working on at the time of writing this article is v1.2018.10.19-beta4. This is the first release for 2018, so its final release will be version 2018.1.
Further examples:
Old format | New format | Notes |
---|---|---|
v1.2018.09.17-beta2 | 2018.1-beta2 | |
v1.2018.10.19-beta4 | 2018.1-beta4 | |
2018.1-beta5 | Next beta (if there is one) | |
2018.1 | Final stable release |
We hope this new format will be easier to use and understand.
Internal version numbers
The internal version numbers inside each released MacType package (for example MacWiz.exe, MacTray.exe, DLLS, etc.) will continue using their existing format.
This will allow the new installer to automatically upgrade MacType, and except for diagnostic purposes, users won't need to worry about these version numbers.
